Yam is one of ancient Khmer vegetables, it is totally different to sweet potato which also calls yam in America. Yam is much larger than sweet potato, some yam weight over hundred pounds. Out side, yam has rough brownish skin which resembling to tree’s bark , inside is edible and comes with several colors; white, purple, yellow, and reddish. In Cambodia, the most popular colors yam is white and purple yam. In medicine, our people eats yam for treatments of skin rash, breathing problem such as asthma. Yam produces natural steroid, which our poor people need the energy for survive. It is one of the best Asian recipes in South East Asia. Ingredients

Pork riblets, cut chunks bite sizes0.45 kg
Cups water5
Yellow yam peeled and cut to small cubes0.75 kg
Stalk celery, chopped finely1
Tablespoon fish sauce1
Tablespoon sugar½
Teaspoon salt½
Teaspoon black pepper¼
Stalks green onion,chopped2

Directions to make Yellow Yam Soup with Pork Ribs

  1. Put pork riblets and water in a soup pot and cook till meat tender.
  2. Add yellow yam, celery and cook till yam tender.
  3. Seasoning with fish sauce, sugar, salt and black pepper.
  4. Top with green onion.
  5. Serve hot with rice
