Sweet Sour Spicy Star Fruit Soup
Sweet, Sour, Spicy Star Fruit Soup with Asian catfish is a delectable and authentic Vietnamese recipe, showcasing a delightful combination of flavors. This dish features a convenient twist by using tamarind powder instead of traditional tamarind pulps, making it easier and faster to prepare without compromising on taste.
To create this enticing soup, vegetable oil is heated in a pre-heated soup pot, and minced garlic and lemongrass are sautéed until fragrant. Water is then added, and the mixture is cooked until it reaches a bubbling state. The frozen Asian catfish, or alternatively, chunks of basa or catfish fillet, are introduced to the boiling water, along with sliced star fruits and chopped celery. The ingredients cook together until the fish achieves a tender consistency.
The soup is flavored with Knorr tamarind powder, fish sauce, and sugar, creating a harmonious balance of sweet, sour, and spicy notes. Chunks of tomato are added to enhance the soup’s texture. Before serving, the soup is garnished with chopped green onions, rice paddy herb (ma-om), and optional chopped chili peppers for those who enjoy an extra kick.
This Sweet, Sour, Spicy Star Fruit Soup can be enjoyed piping hot with a side of rice, offering a delightful and flavorful dining experience. The use of tamarind powder not only simplifies the cooking process but also ensures that the dish retains its authentic and delicious Vietnamese taste.
