Easy Vietnamese Ham Recipe

The Easy Vietnamese Ham Recipe is a beloved dish in Vietnam and Cambodia, enjoyed as a versatile ingredient in various dishes such as noodle soup, salads, or simply as a flavorful snack. The key to making this ham particularly delicious lies in using high-quality pork, preferably pork loin. The recipe calls for a carefully curated blend of seasonings and wet ingredients to impart a distinctive taste and texture to the ham.

For the seasoning, the pork loin is cut into small pieces and combined with fish sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, black or white pepper, and a touch of sugar. These elements come together to form a flavorful mixture that will enhance the taste of the ham. In addition to the seasoning, wet ingredients like warm water, baking powder, and tapioca starch are mixed separately and set aside for later use.

The preparation involves grinding all the ingredients, particularly the seasoned pork, in a food processor until a fine paste is achieved. It’s crucial to ensure that the mixture reaches a smooth and finely ground consistency for the recipe to succeed. Once the paste is formed, the wet ingredients are added, and everything is blended until thoroughly combined.

Next, the meat paste is divided into four portions and each portion is tightly wrapped in multiple layers of clear plastic wrap to form small loaves. These loaves are then placed in a steamer and cooked for about 30 minutes. After steaming, the ham is left to cool before slicing. The end result is a delicious Vietnamese ham that can be enjoyed warm or cold, making it a versatile addition to various dishes or a delightful standalone snack. This recipe provides a straightforward way to create a flavorful and popular dish from Vietnamese and Cambodian cuisine. Enjoy!
