Cambodian Beef Jerky Recipe

The Cambodian Beef Jerky Recipe presents a delicious Southeast Asian-style jerky that is a popular snack in various Asian countries, including Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam. This homemade treat involves thinly sliced beef marinated with a simple yet flavorful combination of ingredients, then dried in the sun. Known for its ease of preparation and kid-friendly appeal, this beef jerky offers a tasty alternative that’s not overly spicy.

The key ingredients for this recipe include 2 pounds of thinly sliced beef, oyster sauce, soy sauce, Yoshida sauce (or teriyaki sauce), salt, garlic paste, sliced ginger, sugar, black pepper or crushed chili, roasted sesame seeds (optional), and MSG (optional). The beef is marinated overnight, allowing the flavors to infuse the meat thoroughly. The next day, the marinated beef is either sundried or dried in a food dryer, providing a convenient way to achieve the desired jerky consistency.

When it’s time to enjoy the Cambodian Beef Jerky, there are multiple cooking options. While grilling or microwaving are viable choices, the recommended method is deep frying, as it imparts a distinct Asian flavor to the jerky. The dried jerky is typically served with a lime juice dressing, accompanied by sticky rice or traditional dishes like Thai Som Tam or Khmer Bok Lahong, offering a delightful combination of textures and flavors.

A noteworthy tip from the recipe creator is to fry the meat before marinating it to ensure a tasty end result. The versatility of this jerky lies in the ability to add and adjust flavors according to personal preference. The inclusion of Yoshida or teriyaki sauce is highlighted as a key element that enhances the overall taste of the jerky. This homemade Cambodian Beef Jerky provides a delightful and satisfying snack that captures the essence of Southeast Asian cuisine.

2 tablespoon of roasted sesame seeds (optional)
Msg optional

Directions to make Cambodian Beef Jerky Recipe

  1. Mix and marinate the meat with the entire ingredients and let it marinate overnight
  2. The next day take it out and sundry or dry in a food dryer.
  3. When ready to serve you can pop in microwave for 1 minute if the meat is thin enough to cook in the microwave or grill it, but the best way to cook Asian jerky is deep fry.

Serve dried jerky with lime juice dressing and sticky rice or Thai Som Tam or Khmer Bok Lahong.

Note: I fry my meat before I put it away to marinate so I know the meat will taste good when it dry. Do add and adjust the flavor to your taste. Yoshida and teriyaki sauce bring a better taste to any jerky.

Thank you and enjoy it.
