Chinese BBQ Pork or Char Siu pork recipe
The Chinese BBQ Pork or Char Siu Pork recipe presents a delectable dish primarily crafted from pork, utilizing a traditional Chinese cooking method known as char siu, meaning “fork burn” or “roast.” While ideally prepared over charcoal with indirect heat, this recipe adapts to a conventional oven for convenience.
To create the flavorful marinade, Chinese BBQ sauce is combined with water in a large bowl. Additional ingredients, including hoisin sauce, soy sauce, minced ginger, minced garlic, and rice wine, are incorporated into the marinade mixture. The pork loin is then marinated in this concoction overnight, allowing the flavors to infuse thoroughly.
The marinated pork is subsequently roasted in a 350-degree oven on a rack over a pan of water for approximately 1 hour or until the pork reaches the desired doneness. To ensure even cooking, the meat is turned while roasting. Once ready to serve, the BBQ pork is sliced into ¼-inch pieces, offering a perfect balance of tenderness and flavor.
Chinese BBQ Pork is traditionally served with Chinese hot mustard and sesame seeds or ketchup. The recipe author shares a personal preference for serving it with honey mustard at Safeway. This delightful dish not only showcases the rich tradition of Chinese cooking but also provides a convenient adaptation for home cooks to enjoy the succulent taste of Chinese BBQ Pork.
