Homemade Orange Chicken Recipe

This Homemade Orange Chicken recipe offers a delectable rendition of the popular mall-style orange chicken. It features crispy fried chicken chunks coated in an authentic orange sauce, providing a burst of vibrant flavors. The dish begins with the preparation of the orange sauce, combining ingredients like lemon or lime juice, fresh orange juice, chicken broth, sugar, soy sauce, rice wine, and cornstarch. These are heated in a saucepan until the mixture thickens, creating a flavorful sauce that sets the stage for the dish.

To coat the chicken, a batter is prepared using a mixture of flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, and cold water. This batter provides a crisp and golden exterior to the chicken when deep-fried. It’s important to note that the thickness of the batter can be adjusted with water to achieve the desired consistency. The chicken pieces are then dipped in the batter and fried until they turn a satisfying golden brown. It’s recommended to enjoy the orange chicken immediately after frying for the best texture and flavor.

In the final steps of the recipe, the wok is used to bring all the elements together. After frying ginger and orange peel until fragrant, the fried chicken is reintroduced to the wok. The prepared orange sauce is added and thoroughly mixed, allowing the flavors to meld together. The heat is maintained until the sauce achieves a desirable thickness, resulting in a delectable coating for the chicken. The dish is garnished with sliced green onions and roasted sesame seeds before being served hot with rice.

It’s worth noting that if a redder hue is desired for the sauce, a tablespoon of ketchup can be added.
