Chinese Sesame Chicken Recipe
The Chinese Sesame Chicken Recipe provides a delicious take on the classic dish, featuring crispy chicken pieces coated in a flavorful sesame sauce. The process begins with marinating bite-sized chicken pieces in a mixture of chicken bouillon powder, sesame oil, soy sauce, rice wine or sherry, and white pepper. This imparts a rich depth of flavor to the chicken, enhancing its taste and tenderness. The chicken is left to marinate for 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse.
For the batter, a mixture of flour, baking powder, baking soda, water, cornstarch, and vegetable oil is prepared. This batter provides a crispy and light coating for the chicken pieces during frying. It’s worth noting that store-bought tempura powder can also be used as an alternative.
The sauce, a crucial component of the dish, is a blend of honey, sugar, ketchup, vinegar, soy sauce, and optional chili paste for a spicy kick. This mixture balances sweetness, tanginess, and a touch of heat, creating a well-rounded flavor profile.
To cook the chicken, vegetable oil is heated in a wok over medium-high heat. The marinated chicken pieces are coated with the batter or tempura mix and then deep-fried until they achieve a golden brown, crispy exterior. They are then removed and set on a paper towel to drain off excess oil.
In the same wok, a tablespoon of oil is left, and minced garlic is fried until it turns brown, infusing the sauce with a savory aroma. The sauce mixture is then added and heated until it reaches a boil. The fried chicken is reintroduced and mixed well over low heat, allowing the flavors to meld together. The heat is turned off, and chopped green onions are added for a fresh and aromatic touch.
Finally, the dish is garnished with sesame seeds, adding a nutty and visually appealing element. The Chinese Sesame Chicken is served hot and pairs perfectly with rice, offering a restaurant-quality dining experience in the comfort of your own kitchen.
