Candies Yams

Candied Yams, a delectable dish featuring sweet potatoes or yams, bathed in caramelized cinnamon butter sugar, stands out as a mouthwatering treat. This dish has become a traditional holiday food in America, celebrated for its rich flavors and comforting appeal. With just a few simple ingredients, including sweet potatoes, water, butter, light brown sugar, salt, cinnamon powder, and marshmallows, Candied Yams transforms humble ingredients into a festive and indulgent culinary experience.

The cooking process begins by peeling and cubing medium-sized sweet potatoes or yams. These are then boiled in water for 10 minutes until partially cooked before being drained. The semi-cooked potatoes are arranged in a greased bake ware, ready to absorb the rich flavors that follow. In a small saucepan, butter is melted and combined with light brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon powder, creating a decadent caramelized sauce. This luscious mixture is poured evenly over the partially cooked sweet potatoes.

The dish is then baked in a 350-degree oven until the sweet potatoes reach a tender consistency, and the sauce thickens to perfection. To elevate the sweetness and add a gooey texture, marshmallows are placed on top and baked until melted and golden brown. The result is a delightful blend of soft, caramelized sweet potatoes with a hint of cinnamon, topped with gooey marshmallow goodness.

Candied Yams can be served hot or warm, making it a comforting and visually appealing addition to holiday gatherings. The combination of caramelized sweetness, warm spices, and the gooey texture of marshmallows creates a memorable dish that embodies the warmth and joy of holiday celebrations in America.
