Easy Vietnamese BBQ Pork
Easy Vietnamese BBQ Pork is a flavorful dish marinated with a combination of lemongrass, shallots, garlic, honey, fish sauce, brown sugar, soy sauce, and black pepper. The pork shoulder is sliced into 2 to 3-inch strips and marinated for at least 3 hours, or overnight for maximum flavor. Once marinated, the pork can be threaded onto wooden skewers and grilled on medium heat until cooked to perfection.
To accompany the BBQ pork, a Sweet Fish Sauce or Nuoc Cham is prepared using fish sauce, sugar, fresh lime juice, boiling water (to dissolve the sugar), Thai chilies (optional), minced garlic, and shredded carrot. The sugar is dissolved in the boiling water and allowed to cool before adding the remaining ingredients. The flavors can be adjusted to personal taste preference.
This dish is traditionally served with chilled rice noodles, an assortment of herbs, and pickled vegetables. These accompaniments complement the savory and slightly sweet flavor of the BBQ pork. The meal is typically garnished with sliced green onions and chopped cilantro.
For a complete dining experience, the BBQ pork can be served with rice noodles, pickled carrots and daikon, cucumber, lettuce, and an assortment of fresh herbs. |1 lb of pork shoulder sliced into 2 to 3 inch strip
|2 tablespoon of minced garlic
|3 tablespoon of minced shallots
|3 tablespoon of minced lemongrass
|1 tablespoon of brown sugar
|1 tablespoon of honey
|1 tablespoon of fish sauce
|2 tablespoon of soy sauce
|1 teaspoon of black pepper
|2 green onions thinly slice
|3 tablespoon of chopped cilantro
For Sweet Fish Sauce or Nuoc Charm
|1/2 cup of fish sauce
|1/2 cup of sugar
|1/2 cup of fresh lime juice
|1/4 cup of boiling water to dissolve the sugar
|2 Thai chilies minced (this optional)
|2 cloves of garlic minced
|1/4 cup of shredded carrot
Directions to make Easy Vietnamese BBQ Pork
- Dissolve the sugar with boiling water let it cool down a bit then add the rest of the ingredients, do adjust the flavor to your taste.
- Marinate pork meat with all the ingredients for 3 hours or overnight. Using wooden skewer to thread the pork or just gill them on a rack. Grill the meat on medium heat until done.
- Often we serve this BBQ Pork with rice noodle, pickle carrot daikon, cucumber, lettuce and herbs, along with Vietnamese sweet fish sauce, Garnish with roasted peanut, or you can serve it with rice.
