Pork and Vegetable Soup is a beloved dish in Khmer cuisine, reflecting the Cambodian penchant for soup, which is often enjoyed alongside plain rice in many meals. Despite the abundance of Khmer soup recipes, this particular one stands out for its deliciousness and simplicity, making it an accessible option for home cooks.

The ingredients for this flavorful soup include pork meat (cut into chunks), diced yellow onion, peeled and chunked carrot, water, peeled, seeded, and chunked chayote squash, fish sauce, sugar, salt, black pepper, and a handful of chopped sweet basil leaves. The cooking process involves placing the pork, onion, carrot, and water in a soup pot and simmering until the meat becomes tender.

Chayote squash is then added to the pot and cooked until it reaches the desired tenderness. The soup is seasoned with fish sauce, sugar, salt, and black pepper, enhancing the overall flavor profile. To add a fresh and aromatic touch, the dish is topped with chopped sweet basil leaves, providing a burst of herbaceous goodness.
